Saint Louis University

Unleashing a higher potential

Saint Louis University is a nationally recognized Catholic, Jesuit institution and the first university established west of the Mississippi River. With 12 schools and colleges, a campus in Madrid, Spain and more than 240 undergraduate and graduate programs, SLU’s impact spans disciplines, communities and continents.

Spotlighting Catholic Jesuit tradition and academic excellence

CHALLENGE

Representing a university of this scale means balancing many distinct voices while maintaining a cohesive brand rooted in mission, service and academic excellence. Each school has its own audience, priorities and story to tell — yet all are united by SLU’s Jesuit values and commitment to developing leaders who serve the greater good.

SOLUTION

Our partnership with SLU spans schools, institutes and initiatives, helping translate complex academic work into clear, compelling storytelling across print, digital and environmental design. From brand positioning and annual reports to publications and experiential spaces, our work supports recruitment, donor engagement and institutional pride — while keeping SLU’s mission at the center of every touchpoint.

SLU research institute

In 2018, Saint Louis University received a historic $50 million gift from Dr. Jeanne and Rex Sinquefield, placing research excellence at the center of the University’s future.

Logo Design

With new momentum and global ambition, the Research Institute needed a strategic way to share its stories of innovation and humanitarian impact.

As new faculty-led research groups launched, we helped each step into the public eye with confident, mission-driven brand identities. Custom logos aligned with SLU’s parent brand while expressing each group’s distinct vision, creating a cohesive system that brought maturity and credibility to emerging research teams.

Annual Impact Report

To further showcase the scale of SLU’s work, we developed the Research Institute Impact Report — an annual publication designed to engage donors and celebrate the scholars, discoveries and ambitions shaping SLU’s research community. Combining narrative-driven storytelling with a coffee-table–style design, the report highlights major centers, emerging faculty and breakthrough work spanning COVID-19 response, geospatial innovation, vaccine research and global archaeological discoveries. Rich photography, skimmable layouts and infographic elements make complex research approachable and deeply human.

Now in its fifth volume, the Impact Report continues to serve as a flagship storytelling piece supporting the Research Institute’s visibility and fundraising efforts.

SLU School of Medicine

As Saint Louis University School of Medicine advanced its five-year strategic plan, it sought a stronger voice and visual identity for its biannual Grand Rounds Magazine.

We partnered with the School to evolve both content and design, shaping each issue around a central theme tied to the strategic plan. Our team led feature development, copywriting and stakeholder interviews, crafting narrative-driven stories that explored curriculum modernization, research breakthroughs, donor impact and student and faculty experiences.

Each issue carries its own theme, while recurring features — including alumni stories, Match Day coverage and the Talents Beyond Medicine series — provide continuity and personality across volumes.

Design played a key role in establishing a recognizable publication system. Each issue incorporated SLU brand colors, custom iconography and bold photography showcasing students, faculty and hands-on learning. Skimmable layouts, pull quotes and graphic storytelling made complex medical topics approachable, while evolving color palettes and feature treatments kept each edition visually distinct yet cohesive.

Now distributed in both print and digital formats, Grand Rounds Magazine serves as a flagship storytelling platform that strengthens alumni engagement, supports donor relationships and reinforces the School of Medicine’s leadership in medical education.

“It’s been a pleasure partnering with Paradigm on our Grand Rounds magazine for the last few years. From creative design elements to impactful stories, we are proud to showcase this publication to our alumni and supporters. Thanks to the Paradigm team for helping to elevate the academic excellence of the SLU School of Medicine.”

SLU School of Education

Since 1925, the Saint Louis University School of Education has shaped generations of educators committed to academic excellence and community service.

Signature Report

To help the School highlight its achievements and vision, we developed a reimagined Signature Report — a publication designed to showcase academic programs, research, outreach and the people behind the work. Through interviews with faculty, students, alumni and partners, we uncovered stories rooted in excellence, integrity and service.

The report’s design aligned with the SLU brand while introducing vibrant accents to reflect the School of Education’s distinct personality. Graphic interpretations of the fleur de lis, diverse photography and warm, approachable layouts reinforced the human side of education and the inclusive community the School represents. Distributed to more than 1,000 constituents and shared digitally, the report strengthened engagement both on campus and beyond.

Heritage Wall

As part of the School’s centennial celebration, we also transformed Fitzgerald Hall into a living historical experience through the Heritage Wall. The installation highlights faculty, alumni achievements and key milestones across a 100-year timeline.

Large-scale wall graphics, archival photography and dimensional elements guide visitors decade by decade, with color transitions moving from black-and-white history to the present day. A focal “SOE” display built from school-themed objects adds a tactile, emotional layer that connects past, present and future educators.

Unveiled at the start of the 2024–2025 academic year, the Heritage Wall now serves as a permanent storytelling feature, honoring the School’s legacy while building excitement for its centennial and what lies ahead.

SLU Chaifetz School of Business

For more than a century, the Richard A. Chaifetz School of Business has prepared leaders to create positive change through business.

As the School looked to strengthen its voice and share its impact, it partnered with us to unify its brand positioning and elevate its flagship Dean’s Report publication.

Our work began with clarifying the School’s identity. Through conversations with faculty, students and community members, a clear throughline emerged: business as a force for good, grounded in SLU’s Jesuit mission. We captured this spirit in a defining brand phrase: “Where Mission Meets the Market.”

We then developed a multi-year system for the School’s annual Dean’s Reports, designed to celebrate achievements, outline priorities and reinforce its mission.

Across editions, we led content development, interviews and copywriting to surface stories that connect business education with real-world change. Recurring alumni, faculty and student features added continuity, while evolving themes kept each issue timely and forward-looking.

Each report balanced SLU brand elements with distinctive Chaifetz School treatments. Bold color blocking, graphic patterns and expressive typography created a recognizable yet flexible system. Skimmable layouts, section openers and visual hierarchy helped readers navigate complex information with ease, while QR codes connected print readers to deeper digital content.

Now a signature communication piece, the Dean’s Report gives leadership a powerful platform to share progress, strengthen donor and alumni relationships and reinforce the School’s mission-driven identity. More than 5,000 reports have been printed and distributed across recent editions, with the series continuing to evolve alongside the School’s vision.

“Jeff Johnson and his team have been our partners, and that of others as well, in creating the dean’s report for the Chaifetz School. Working with Jeff’s team has been a terrific experience.”
