Paradigm’s Brand Anniversary Campaigns: The 100 Faces of Sunnen

Sunnen has been a centerpiece of the St. Louis business landscape for decades. In 2024, the storied, international brand officially reached 100 years and wanted to mark its company anniversary with a year-long advertising campaign. Anniversary Logo
The first stage of our campaign involved creating an anniversary logo for use in all promotions. We wanted to do more than slap a “100” on the original branding. Instead, our logo designers created something distinct yet connected to the Sunnen brand.
The standard Sunnen logo has elements that make it identifiable. For recognition’s sake, there could be no drastic changes to colors or fonts. We noted that the sunburst mark had appeared in all iterations of the logo — it was only natural to carry it over.
In our final logo, a red “100” took center stage. The bold numeral incorporated radiating lines that nodded to Sunnen’s iconic sunburst. The company anniversary logo featured a cutout between the zeros that left space for “Sunnen” in a modern, sans-serif typeface. The years “1924” and “2024” were stacked vertically to denote Sunnen’s inception as well as its centennial celebration.
Campaign Ideation
With a logo in hand, Sunnen was ready to choose the direction their advertising campaign would take. The only challenge was the rich subject matter. A lot has happened in the century since Founder Joe Sunnen took to the road. Countless achievements dotted the organization’s history — how could a brand anniversary campaign pay homage to it all?
The theme for the company anniversary needed to be flexible. “100 Faces of Sunnen” provided an opportunity to cover applicable elements of Sunnen’s history without barriers. Its message paved the way to acknowledge all people, products, partnerships and milestones alike.
Anniversary Microsite
Though many know of Sunnen, few know its history. Recent achievements were available online, but only Sunnen employees had access to their archives.
Our team visited Sunnen’s headquarters to pull relevant documents and information for this campaign. We made note of notable events, awards and other achievements while capturing photos of documents for our design team. Sunnen even provided a copy of a 1969 novelization of their history: “An American Saga: The Fabulous Tale of Sunnen Products Company.”
All elements debuted online through Sunnen’s centennial timeline. The microsite opened with the company anniversary logo and gave way to a side-scrolling rendition of Sunnen’s history. The points ranged from wartime production and visits with the president to international expansion and future aspirations. Links to more in-depth articles and web pages speckled the timeline, directing traffic back to the Sunnen website.
Campaign Social Media
During brand anniversary campaigns, social media opens the door to new opportunities for engagement and storytelling. Our team strove to not only highlight elements of the Sunnen timeline but also share historic and modern contributors to its success. We started out simple by commemorating Founder Joe Sunnen’s ingenuity on LinkedIn and Facebook.
From there, we broadened our scope. Our company anniversary posts covered notable employees, partnerships, industry applications, machines and tools. The captions stayed informational yet concise while still funneling traffic back to Sunnen’s website. The graphics incorporated the Sunnen anniversary logo to keep attention on the centennial throughout the year.
Social media became the thread between the past, present and future. With each post, we turned a century of stories into shareable celebrations. More than that, new followers were drawn in to join a journey of partnership, precision and performance.
