Challenge

John O’Leary has been through more than any of us could imagine. As a nine-year-old boy, John was a victim of a devastating explosion that left his body ravaged with third-degree burns. Even as doctors feared the worst, John refused to let his story end there. Later in life, John began sharing his story with others and, seeing the joy and action it sparked, decided to make it his full-time focus.

After publishing one best-selling book and with another on the way, John’s team was entering a period of exciting growth. Before that started, the team wanted to put its best foot forward with a clear, meaningful brand identity and website that would allow John’s message to spread seamlessly across a growing media mix.

Brand Identity

We led the John O’Leary team through a branding exercise that got to the heart of what makes John O’Leary’s message so powerful. We left our Discovery sessions feeling, frankly, inspired by everything we heard. But what most stood out to us, especially as we researched John’s competitors, was that John’s story felt real. As he spoke, we could feel how the fire that nearly took his life now fueled his passion.

We took that authentic concept of fire and distilled it into a single flame anchoring a refined wordmark. Paired with the brand’s promise of “Live Inspired” the new logo is a perpetual reminder that, even in our darkest hours, we can still live a life burning with purpose. We paired John O’Leary’s new logo design with a bright, vibrant color palette that extended to each of the brand’s media channels, like the Live Inspired Podcast and the In Studio membership.

Website Design

As we wrapped up the brand identity work, we began concepting how to best translate it to the web. We moved to design a website that made you feel like you were talking to John himself: warm, inviting and — of course — inspiring. Combining vivid colors and striking photography, the John O’Leary website delivers the same visual impact as one of John’s keynote addresses.

Given John’s line of work, it was especially important that this website sound as good as it looked. When writing the site’s content, we emphasized highly emotional language that asked people to look inward and think about life’s biggest questions.

As you move through the site, you’ll see headlines asking you to continue your journey toward inspiration and invitations to immerse yourself in the John O’Leary community.

As John shared his vision for the future, we knew we had to integrate robust media functionality into the site. Although John was an accomplished speaker and author, he also wanted to expand channels like his podcast, his private membership, his YouTube channel — the list went on and on. We integrated all these into the website, making it a true one-stop destination for all John’s content.

Our work with John O’Leary laid much of the foundation for his new book, IN AWE, which went on to become a New York Times best-seller.
